Lon & Stacey Waid Family
Specializing in Superior Working Ranch Horses!

Bringing brood mares home.
Hello & welcome to Waid Ranch, Inc.
The following links feature AQHA, superior working ranch horses.
Waid Ranch was homesteaded by Lawrence Waid in 1897. We are the 4th generation to operate under the Waid name for over 100 years. We raise commercial cattle along with registered Quarter Horses, & kids! The ranch has seen many changes in practice through the years but one thing remains the same: The use of exceptional horses for day to day tasks!
In recent years we have found the need to thin timber due to overgrowth, pine beetle infestation, and to reduce the effects of potential wildfire. We purchased a sawmill in December 2007 and have been producing full dimension, rough cut lumber eversince. We saw special orders for corrals, decks, pole barns, windbreaks, or yard fence.
The AQHA weanlings are out of exceptional stock and are bred for just about every riding discipline. Very popular among 4-Hers for easy going dispositions. Most of the dams are foundation mares bred to exceptional AQHA stallions. Our mares run out all winter and are bred to foal in May. They are sorted for breeding to one of the two stallions June 1st. The foals are branded late July, haltered and will be ready to go by weaning time, October 1st.
Each of our saddle horses is put through the paces that a working ranch dishes out. Since we changed our business structure from cow calf to a yearling operation we use horses more than ever. Lon spends a lot of his time riding & roping yearlings outside to doctor. Some are even started in harness to help with the feeding! The whole family is involved in our working ranch. Lon exposes the 4 year old & older horses to the roping arena & has competed in the USTRC, MTRA, & local jackpots heading & heeling while the younger colts are started right & perform all the basics. We practice rotational grazing so our mounts see many hours of the back end of cattle on the trail. Stacey enjoys starting young horses on the barrels, team roping with the family & at local jackpots. She & the girls are involved in local barrel racing clubs and have competed in the NBHA, NWRA, youth & open rodeos. Lynsey,Layne,Lacey,& Loni are all member of Hill County 4-H & help start colts in the round pen. Layne competes in team roping & calf roping. So you know, when you buy a Waid horse, you can count on taking him home with the confidence that he is started right, has been exposed to many different areas, & has seen a lot of cattle & country!
